Praying for the persecuted church #1

Hello family in Christ! The new series begins today. This series will be focused on exposing what our brothers and sisters in Christ face around the world and then praying for them. From next week the aim is to publish a post every Tuesday.

Please note that information shared for this post is extracted from Open Doors watch list https://www.opendoorsusa.org/christian-persecution/world-watch-list/afghanistan/

The world watch list consists of 50 of the worlds highest persecuted countries, number 1 is the most extreme and 50 the least. We will dive straight in from number 1 and then work our way to 50. Each post will have a summary so we can keep track and also keep praying for the previous nation discussed.

Number 1 on the watch list today is Afghanistan. For many years North Korea was number 1, but since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021 the persecution against Christians has been extreme.

The persecution is from the Islamic religion. As the Islamic state now controls every aspect of government it is extremely difficult for a Christian to live out their faith. They must obey Islamic rules or face potential death or flee the country. The Taliban even search documents to try and find out who are Christians. If a person from an Islamic family becomes a Christian they can be killed by the family in what they call “honour killings”. In some cases, if an Islamic believer leaves the religion for Christianity they can be considered insane and locked up in a mental institution. The conditions truly are horrific and without the strength of God it would be impossible to keep the faith.

Quote from Afghanistan – The Taliban are killing our souls and spirits.”
Sharifullah (name changed) is a traditional craftsman in Afghanistan. He is a secret believer, who devotes his life to shepherding the people God has entrusted into his care.

In spite of all the pressure faced and the constant control and supervision by Taliban leaders, there are still thousands of Christians! God is moving in his peoples hearts and no doubt adding numbers to the Kingdom of God. Most of those thousands have left Islam for Christianity.

This kind of lifestyle for a Christian is unimaginable for us in the West, but if we can just feel a sense of what they are facing perhaps it will stir our hearts to pray.

1 Corinthians 12:26 If one part of the body of Christ suffers, every part suffers with it.

Prayer…

Father God, you see all that has been happening in Afghanistan. You know every human heart and all is laid bare before you. Oh Lord, we know you have heard the secret cries of your people. Please strengthen every one who calls upon the name of Jesus in Afghanistan. Turn the hearts of Taliban leaders from being filled with hate to being filled with love. May your Holly Spirit sweep Afghanistan like a great tidal wave of mercy, pouring out and softening stubborn hearts. May those who have been exposed as Christians be bold to continue to share their faith, so much so that any chains that hold them will break! Rise up leaders who will shepherd your flock so that your people can be equipped to serve you and your Kingdom. Also, may your word go forth in Afghanistan and accomplish all that it’s set out to accomplish. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen

Whether the glass is half full or empty is a matter of perspective. The glass can be half full of air and half full of water at the same time. I see life as a gift that is wrapped up with great potential. Writing is one way this gift can be expressed. Words can bring can awaken life. This is why I love the word of God through the bible. It is the living word that can transform humans, societies and ultimately the world. Welcome to my world of words, I hope and pray God will bring these words to life for you!,

    1. Amen! Yea, persecution is not something new, but it should also not be something we push to one side, thank you for praying! God is moving in our midst. God bless

  1. Have you heard of this group? I used to get their magazine. They publish a lot of stories as to how Christians are persecuted. It makes me feel grateful to live in a place where I can technically believe freely. However, actually it’s getting more difficult to go against the pressure of the “liberal” agenda.

    1. Yes I have partnered with Open Doors in the past by doing fund raising events, them and also Barnabus fund, they do great work for the Kingdom! Yes, unfortunately a time of persecution will come to the West, but we need not be afraid for Christ is with us. God bless 😊

  2. This is so good. It is good to bring attention to and remind us of the different types of people and places that are greatly persecuted for their Christianity. I am glad for this education so that I can pray for them and the regions specifically. Thank you.

    1. Hi Petrine!! Hope you are well. Thank you so much for reading and encouraging. Yes, it’s so easy to get up in our own worldly affairs and forget about those who suffer for the faith (I’m so guilty with this!) so it’s great to speak and pray about what’s happening! You are welcome, God bless 🥰
