Can you really have friendship in the workplace?

I read a quote that said something like “your colleagues are not your friends, you work and you leave and that’s it”. That post had more than a 1000 likes on LinkedIn. It got me thinking, that’s quite a sad way to see the workplace considering the average person will spend 40 hours a week there! It also made me think that if everyone had that attitude then we would all be superficial surface level friends.

As some of you know, I have worked in customer services for 9 years, except now being a trainer. I could not imagine just working like a robot and not developing any true connections! For me, work is important but it’s not most important. The value of true friendship far exceeds the value of money earned.

One of my closest friends.

The first person I spoke to at my current workplace was a man named Eric. He’s a family man from Bangladesh, I was also delighted to find out he is a Christian. We connected instantly and became amazing friends and even though we are in different projects now, we are still friends! He has been there for me when times were tough and the same for him when times were tough.

Friendship is important!

If you work in an environment filled with many people (such as a call centre), do not neglect the power of good friendships. Sure, the dynamic does change when in leadership because you have much higher responsibilities, but friendships can still be built. Focus on building each other up and not tearing each other down. Those who watch your lifestyle and yet don’t know Jesus as Lord and saviour might want to know him by observing you. Your love, attitude and kindness could be all it takes to bring someone closer to salvation.

Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Love and God bless

Fires in the USA

The news can be overwhelming these days; from wars, a virus outbreak in China, famines, natural disasters and anarchy. Sometimes it’s difficult to know what to pray for, who to pray for or what we should talk about. Yet I cannot keep silent about what we are witnessing in California with those wildfires.

First, any of the situations mentioned that are happening deserve our attention and prayers – No one is beyond the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

The primary response for believers is prayer – first pray for the saving of many lives, second that God may send rain to put out those fires.

Is this Gods judgement?

Some people are saying on the internet that the rich deserve it and that this is Gods judgement, yet how can we know the heart of the people? It is God who knows the hearts, just because a millionaire lives in a nice building this does not automatically make them subjects of Gods wrath, but it does make it harder to enter the Kingdom of heaven, Jesus said, “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God” (Matthew 19:24).  Also, the righteous do not perish under Gods judgement, they will always be rescued (Genesis 18:16-33) and Gods prophets (true prophets) will always be informed of coming judgements.

Unfortunately, due to extremely dry conditions and hurricane force winds, the wildfires were fanned into communities causing thousands to be evacuated. Pray to God that lives will be spared and many will come to faith! Homes can be re-built but a perished human life cannot be replaced.

All of this got me thinking about something very important. We can spend many years saving, investing and building our dreams – including perhaps our dream home, only for a natural disaster to destroy all the effort in a mere moment of history. What takes many years to build up can be destroyed in seconds. We are not fools because we have possessions or homes and so on, we are fools if this is our source of joy and security rather than God.

What is God saying through this?

God wants us to store up our treasures somewhere else, where moths and thieves cannot break in and destroy (Matthew 6:19-21) where natural disasters cannot happen and where old age doesn’t exist – we are to store up treasures in heaven. If our hearts are set on Christ and His kingdom and we focus on our riches in heaven, all the things we have in this world will be seen in a different light. We will still be able to enjoy what we have but we will not hold onto it. Perhaps like the apostle Paul, we will discover the secret of contentment (Philippians 4:11-13). So let’s store up our treasures in heaven.

Let’s pray for those effected by the fire:

Father God, thank you that you are sovereign over all and that nothing can thwart your plans. We lift up California to you and pray you will send rain! Send rain to put out the fires God, instead replace the physical fires with a spiritual fire from heaven to purify peoples hearts. May your grace reach those affected and bring them to salvation. May they find an eternal home through you father God, for in your place are many mansions. May your will be done – in Jesus Christ name – amen

Love and God bless

Happy New Year! Here is an update – back to blogging

Hello blogging family! How are you? How was Christmas and New year? For me it was great! In

Portugal it’s traditional to spend Christmas Eve with family and at midnight we open gifts, so we followed this tradition. Unfortunately as for Christmas Day, the turkey that I brought smelt like rotten eggs once removing it from the packaging, so Christmas dinner was only cooked on the 24th. Anyway, this aside I had a nice quiet Christmas with wifey.

I have so much to speak about since I took a break from blogging! Let’s first state that after 8 years doing customer service roles I am now a business trainer! I’ve been doing that for about 6 weeks now, not just providing trainings but also creating the material, I love it! God is good 🙏🙏 My book “attributes of God” has been selling really well here in Portugal! Praise be to God. in addition to this I watched my younger sister get married in September, she met the man of her dreams and I could not pray for a better man for her. They also just brought a new member of the family into the world! His name is Robert and he was born on the 2nd of January 2025. We had a nerve racking new year while she was in hospital waiting to be induced, Robert didn’t want to come out. Praise God for the safe delivery! I also started a TikTok video series called “English man abroad” – do you have TikTok? If you want to see some more of my journey in video formate then click the following link – https://www.tiktok.com/@englishmanabroad7?_t=ZN-8splLNx6D6F&_r=1

I have had some difficult times, during 2024 I was struggling at times financially, had many health issues – especially when working at the office, I started getting rashes over my body but praise God this is not so anymore. Oh, I forgot to mention, I now work from home 😎 and on some occasions go to the office to keep up my social life.

I have so much more to say, but why say it all in one go? I must say, I have missed you blogging family, especially those I was interacting with, but I Hope to be back and stay back!

I have just three simple commitments this year…

  1. focus on the King – yes Jesus Christ our Lord.
  2. Focus on the Kingdom – there ain’t no Kingdom without a King
  3. Focus on relationships – building strong connections is fundamental in this world.

In addition to this I will be writing more, growing in my work area, travelling and exploring new avenues for the Kingdom of God!

Oh also, on the 4th January I marked 9 years here in Portugal! What a journey. I made a video about it and posted it on TikTok – you can see the video here –

9 years in Portugal!

The verse shared with me before coming to Portugal was taken from Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Let this be a verse for us all for the year 2025.

Happy New Year

Returning in 2025!!

Dear blogging family! Hope all is well with you! It’s certainly been a while since I have been in the blogosphere.

Christmas is just around the corner and so is 2025! I Hope that you and loved ones have a blessed Christmas and a happy new year. May God be with you and strengthen you and uphold you with his mighty hand.

I’m returning to blogging next year after taking a year off. I have so much to tell you and so much to catch upon with all of you. I was close to burning out so I needed some time off to recuperate. Anyway, I will tell more about that next year!

For now, may you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Speak soon.

Isaiah 9:6 For us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Love and God bless

Guess whose back? It’s been a while!!

Good morning fellow bloggers and wonders of Gods creation! How are you? Wow it’s been a few months since I’ve been on the blogging scene! What have you been up to?

Well, on my side it’s been a crazy few months! But the good kind of crazy, let me give you a quick summary of how good God is in the midst of all this!

The workplace

Some of you already know that I work in a call centre dealing with insurances. I have worked in call centres for 8 years now and let me tell you, it’s not easy! But I do have some amazing colleagues that make life much easier.

Anyway, a few months ago I applied for a business training position for my project. I and a few others were selected from our project for the position. We had to do some assessments such as; conduct a training simulation for customer service roles, perform a coaching role play – 1 on 1, present a training while the “pretend” trainees purposely aim to disrupt and distract you and finally, an interview. There were 6 of us from our project that were selected to take the assessments.

We all waited about two weeks for the results, I felt confident in passing but not sure about the position because I had some very tough competition. I was up against a fellow colleague who has been there since the beginning of the project and another amazing lady. Anyway, I passed the assessments! Praise be to God! However, as I expected, my colleague got the job as he had the best score. After him was the other girl and then me, the other 3 did not pass. So I and the other lady wait in what they call “the pipeline” this means that the next positions will be offered to us without any further assessments, so now we wait!

Just after these results another job opportunity was available for our workplace university. Basically, this training position will be to train leaders, quality analysts, other trainers – none customer service roles to put in simple terms. However, these assessments were set to be much harder than the business training position and there was about 50 people who applied for the job opening.

This time the assessments were different. We were given a 3 hour preparation session and then two days later would be the presentation of what we prepared (the business training assessments were a whole day by the way!). The preparation included coming up with a training theme and then creating a PowerPoint presentation to present the training in front of qualified trainers. We also had to write a plan on excel about why we chose the training theme and what we did to create the PowerPoint – we had three hours to prepare this.

I chose the theme “crisis management” a theme aimed to equip leaders for handling any crisis when it arrives and how to put a team together for this. Just to let you know – I barely have good skills for PowerPoint and excel, but by Gods grace and some help from experienced friends who trained me, I got much better.

Anyway, assessment day arrived – I had to present this now to two amazing trainers! First was the 30 minute interview – which went absolutely amazing and felt like more of a conversation than an interview. The second was a 15 minute presentation of the excel about why I chose the theme; this was more challenging but praise God for his amazing help! The second was a 15 minute presentation of the PowerPoint that by Gods miracle I managed to finish within 2 minutes of the 3 hours provided during the preparation session. Everyone else finished much more before me and to be honest I felt very inadequate during the preparation session. Anyway, the presentation was amazing! It flowed, we had jokes, engaged in conversation and I really loved it! However, I ran out of time! But the trainers wanted me to finish but could not allow it. So I didn’t get to finish sharing my presentation. With this in mind, I thought surely I have failed.

We waited weeks for the results and my anxiety grew more with time. Then, finally I had the feedback session.

They called me to my team leaders computer so I could speak on camera with them – we don’t have access to cameras because we are in a protected environment. I couldn’t believe it – I passed with a freaking amazing score!! They said that im everything they are looking for and that my theme for training was the most relevant theme – so relevant that they have already sent the top manager to do this training! Wow, God is amazing!! What I found out during the time after this – I and I think one other person were the only ones to pass!! Even trainers applied for this position but they didn’t pass! I couldn’t believe it! Praise God for his help🙏🙏🙏🙏 I wanted my fellow colleagues to pass too because they work so well!

There’s just one sad thing, there is actually no current job yet 😞 so I still need to wait. The job that was available was taken back by the one who they thought left the company.

Other things…

In addition to these amazing events I also put a football team together for a work football tournament. We got together through TEAMS chat, got to know each other and then played in the tournament. We are actually very good! But due to lack of experience we didn’t make it through the rounds. However, we did make some new friends and have now decided to play together as a team.

I also have my permanent work contract! From May I will be a permanent worker as they have taken me on full time! Praise be to mighty God!

Also, my wife has made a full recovery after having her surgery in January!

I have also finally been back in touch with my best friend who stopped speaking to me for a couple years. He reached out to me one day and asked if I could do a video chat. We then spoke on WhatsApp for about 2 hours and he told me everything he had been through while apologising for not being there for me. I forgave and we are back to speaking again. God is good!

Did I mention that my little sister is going to get married this year?? I’m so excited and she has a great man!

The abundance of blessings has been overwhelming. I have been very busy so blogging regularly is extremely difficult for me. I want to be back for good but if the promotion comes that will consume a lot of time and energy. However, we should always make time for what we love doing right?

I have missed the blogging world and especially missed those of you who I have built special connections with beyond blogging! Sorry that I have not been around or even been in touch with you! I want to be back… God willing I’m back now for at least another season of blogging!

How are things with you? Have I missed anything big in your life? If you want to share I would love to listen!

Sending much love to you blogging family!

Just one thing I ask… please pray for my faith to grow stronger! In all this business I have found it hard to gaze upon Christ and to pray and seek his face. God has been so good but I have been so busy, perhaps too busy! We should never be too busy for the Lord right? He is the one we should always have time for.

Appreciate the prayers!!

Psalm 103:2 “Praise the Lord, oh my soul, and forget not his benefits

Latest updates from the world of gospel road

Hi everyone, hope all is well with you and that God is truly blessing you! It’s been a rocky year for me and consistency has been my greatest struggle. It’s not that I don’t want the things of God, it’s that time and tiredness has been dragging me down to such depths that I have felt incapable of keeping up with my blogs. So… I’m going to take a long break and do some deep sea diving into the presence of God.

Lent will soon be here, a time of reflection, penitence and returning to our first love Jesus a Christ. I want to take this opportunity to reconnect with God in a way that I have not done so far before. I want to return to my first love with all my heart and come back into his kingdom work with a heart pouring out with the fathers love. I will not stop everything of course, but blogging will be on pause until I likely return for Holy Week.

This year started with my wife’s operation, praise God she has made a great recovery and is getting stronger everyday! Work has been super busy and we are well understaffed all though they think we can handle the workload we have – no we cannot! I did my assessments last week for a training job opportunity along with 5 others from the project. Praise God, I passed but with the third highest score, the others below me passed with a mission – which means they have to accomplish something else before being able to do the training job. I did not get the job for my project as someone else got it – now I just wait for future opportunities to be contacted, but all in Gods timing! Along with this I have visited the Angolan embassy and met the president of Angola’s assistant! She is an amazing lady.

Overall this year has been great but I’ve also had some health issues to fight against.

I hope all has been well with you blogging family! I’m taking time off because I do not want to burn out and then be good for nothing, I need to connect again with God and come back with a holy fire! Please pray for this time to be a time of personal revival for many of us who want to seek God.

All the best blogging family – remember there is no kingdom without a King, we need to seek the King before we seek the kingdom, right now my duty is to seek the King. Speak soon!

Love and God bless

As we think so we become

I was listening to a sermon the other day and a quote the pastor stated struck my attention. He said “our consistent thoughts of today will be who we are in a few years time”. That quote got me thinking about what I’m thinking about! I don’t know about you, but I don’t always pay attention to my thoughts, it’s like I have become desensitised to my own thinking. Yet is this what God says about our thoughts?

we cannot live a positive life with a negative mind” – quote unknown

Repetitive thinking is how strongholds are built and habits are formed. When we think about a certain sin and that sin becomes an action then we form a bad habit. When we think a certain belief about ourself such as “I’m a failure because I always fail”, then we build up a stronghold that makes us believe that we can never have success because we are prone to failure. Yet this works both ways! We can shift our minds into positivity the same way we do into negativity.

I was raised in foster care and suffered much rejection. This made me grow up with a rejection mindset and I was like a porcupine ready to prick anyone who came close to me. Those pricks were for my own protection… or so I thought. This mindset created in me an instability that led to many failed relationships and broken friendships. It took me many years to get over this but by Gods grace those days are over! Those days can be over for you too!

No one acts immediately on a radically bad thought, it comes after much meditation. This is why they call those who have been groomed by terrorists as those who have been “radicalised”. They are targeted and bombarded with violent videos, propaganda and teachings of Jihad (Islamic Holy war). This process involves the minds full engagement. The same as when those in communist countries put people in re-education camps to make them recite principles in line with the views of the communist regime.

Now, those examples are extreme, but they show the power of the influence upon our minds. This is why God says those who mediate on Gods words day and night are blessed (Psalms 1:1-3). Those who are filled with the word of God know how to live righteously. Our Godly thoughts lead to a Godly life.

We are carefully instructed to capture every bad thought and make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Think about that quote.. “our consistent thoughts of today will become who we are in a few years”. So today, let’s start filling our minds with Gods word.

Proverbs 4:23 Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life.

Love and God bless

Is the devil comfortable in your church?

If we can sit comfortably in the pews without the word of God penetrating our heart and soul, then the devil can sit comfortably too. The word of God states the word is like a double edged sword. This means it’s sharp and ready to cut any parts that are attached to us that are not of Christ. The process can be difficult but the result is magnificent.

The devil does not fear a religious congregation, he fears a gathering of Gods people who fear the Lord. Religion is most often repetitive but does not bring the change in this world that God desires. This is because religion focuses more on practices and monetary repetition of confessions than about a vibrant life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. True religion in the eyes of God is looking after orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you (James 1:27).

What does the devil fear?

The devil fears the one whose ways are upright in the eyes of God. He fears those who seek the Lord with all their hearts and refuses to bow down to the pressures of the worlds systems. He fears those who draw strength from Christ and who are anointed with the power of the Holy Spirit. He fears the one who shuns evil and resists temptations because they know their identity in Christ and that no pleasure is better than Gods presence. He fears those who trust unswervingly in Christ.

Does the above statement describe you or your church? I admit, my recent years have certainly been a rollercoaster of faith. I’ve been up and down, round and round and upside down, but I’m still on track. God willing, this year will be a year of Holy fire and being set ablaze for the Kingdoms work. It’s not how we start, it’s how we finish. In running, many people start a race well but do endure to the finish line because they start too fast or didn’t even train for the race. Yet we are not part of that group, we are equipped and can finish the race to obtain our everlasting prize in Christ.

Is the devil comfortable in your church?

If the answer is yes, then make him uncomfortable by your zeal for Christ. If the answer is no, then keep doing what your doing and even more so!

These last few months in our church have been amazing. We have gone from a handful of faithful people to around 50 people consistently. Ever since we started bringing the people from the street to the church the church has flourished and God is moving! It’s so encouraging to see, especially after the devastating effects of Covid that caused many people to stop coming.

Let the fire of God burn up inside and stir us to action!

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Love and God bless

When your good efforts are taken for granted – my 20 year work story in a nutshell

Why are good workers taken for granted and bad workers given promotions? Perhaps that’s not always the case and that’s great! But from my experience I have seen slackers promoted and good workers even lose their jobs. The stark reality is this happens all over the world and for those who witness it, without Gods strength it can be disheartening and cause our motivation to crumble. Yet we serve our God not people, therefore our reward comes from him!

My work story…

I left school with hardly any qualifications due to my foster care instability and my bad behaviour. Yet when I was 16 I landed my first job.

My first job

Back then we didn’t have all the tech of today so finding a job was as simple as knocking on the door of a company and asking if their are any vacancies. That’s exactly what I did! In our neighbourhood they had many factories so I got a job in a factory. Now, as I was young and the boss was old he wasn’t very keen on me. He gave me almost impossible lists of tasks to be done believing that I wouldn’t be able to accomplish the work. Yet he was shocked that I not only accomplished it but also had time to spare before the next lot of work came in! This boss treated me bad and I put up with it for about 3 years. Then one day at lunch I walked out and never looked back – even my colleagues were saying I should leave because of him.

My second job…

3 days after I lost my first job I was in a conversation with my neighbour and explained to him what happened. He told me he was the transport manager at a huge warehouse called Halfords – the UK distribution centre that was only a 5 minute walk from my house! He got me a job and within a week I was working at the warehouse.

It didn’t take long to settle down and become known as one of the fastest workers.

This job was physically demanding and required lifting bikes up all day – but I loved the work out and being paid for it! Yet even here my good efforts were taken for granted. I worked for lower money because I worked through an agency. They offer full time jobs directly with the company but for 7 years I saw other workers taken on while I was left out. One of the guys who got the job was the bosses son and is one of the laziest people I had ever known! Yet I didn’t complain but just kept up my good work, at the end of the day I was working for God not men.

On the 7th year I got my full time contract and landed a 9 pound an hour job, then within a few years my calling for Portugal beckoned.

Then in 2016 I moved to Portugal and started a whole new dynamic of work. Within 3 months I got a job in a call centre. I was once again given my best but reaping little benefit. It was after about 18 months that I was promoted.

During my time with this company my boss was very discriminating towards me because of my faith. He would openly mock me and my two other friends, but I didn’t mind being challenged in my faith as it enabled me to grow.

In 2020 I got a new job in another call centre where I worked only from home. I worked for Apple and the job was good. Yet I never met my colleagues in real life and it sometimes got very lonely. 2 days before Christmas in 2022 I lost my job because they wanted to downsize the whole UK market. That was a difficult Christmas and a challenging 5 months to follow.

After 5 months, in May 2023, I got my job that I’m currently working at. This job is extremely difficult but I have a great boss and an amazing team. Not only that, I have recently applied for a training position and hope to succeed in the application! It looks like after 20 years of hard toil that a breakthrough in on the horizon!

During these 20 years of work I have faced many challenges that included; mocking of my faith – especially when I worked in a warehouse and from that one boss. I have been lonely at times and worked to almost burn out levels – but praise God I’m still going!

Also over these years I have seen people ask for prayer, witnessed some come to Christ and God move in mighty ways!

When our good works are taken for granted we can rest assured that God does not take us for granted. We will be richly rewarded in Christ when we refuse to give up and trust in him. So don’t give up!

Soon I will do a post about Christ and the workplace – sharing our faith in our secular jobs.

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Love and God bless

Our destination is not just a place but a person

Don’t know about you but I love a good adventure movie. I love movies with a purpose that move towards a destination; classic movies such as Indiana Jones films or interstellar. These movies captivate because they are adventurous and have challenges to overcome.

Our Christian life is not just about our destination and the hope we have, but it’s also about our journey to get there. The more difficult the journey the more rewarding the destination is.

During my years I have ran 3 half marathons. I know how difficult the run can be, especially the last part that was a slow uphill climb for about 5KM. Yet I had my eyes fixed on the prize. I was focused on beating my personal best time, the goodie bag and the medal. Yet while I trained for the destination I became a better athlete! The same applies for a believer in Christ. We mediate Gods word and put into practice and so we grow in our faith. We focus on the eternal prize in Christ and while we do this we become more Christlike in the process. Just like an athlete becomes physically fit, the believer becomes spiritually fit with time and practice.

How are you training for your destination? Salvation is a secured victory through Christ, but your rewards as a Christian are not secured in Christ. They are secured through your time and dedication to commit to a Godly life. Yes God will hold us and sustain us and give us all the tools we need to succeed, but ultimately we are the ones to decide “not my will but yours”. This Godly restraint of doing what though wilt is a missing piece in todays society (I think I should do a post about this!) but it does not need to be missing from a believer.

Set yourself on a Godly mission to become more Christlike in all you do – I know I certainly need to do this! Once we realize that our destination is more than just a place, but the person (and God!) of Jesus Christ – for he was God incarnate; we will radically change the way we live and this will make a great impact on the world around us!

2 Corinthians 5:17 for I am a new creation in Christ Jesus, the old life has gone the new life has come.

Philippians 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
