A prayer for this day… We will remember.

I will never forget this day 20 years ago today! I was a 13 year old teen just getting ready to go and play football with some friends, I grab some things and go to say goodbye to my foster parents who were watching what I thought was a movie. Intrigued I asked what movie they were watching, they said “this is not a movie, this is happening right now”. I did not play football that day, I did not even leave the T.V as I was staring with such shock with tearful eyes. When those planes flew into the buildings and the towers fell I grieved like never before, what would it have been like for those at the scene?!

I cannot imagine the grief of those who lost a loved one this day or survived through the experience. This day must feel like they re-live the moment all over again! After this day came the war on terror and with all the recent events in Afghanistan, how sad it is to see that 20 years on the war continues in certain countries. The only thing I can think of to do is pray, it is the best source of comfort we can offer for those who have suffered loss and pain. So let’s pray…

Father God, you word says blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted. Yet, when we suffer such grief and pain it can be hard to believe these words. Yet you are faithful and true and you know the depths of our hearts. No doubt you were grieved this day along with us. Father God, comfort those who still feel the loss of a loved one as if it was yesterday when they were taken. Give peace to their hearts and wrap your eternal loving arms around them. Speak to them tenderly as a parent would to their child. Father God, pour out your Holy Spirit, our comforter and helper in times of trouble. May your church be a beacon of hope in this city and nation. May they reach out with love to grieving families.

Father God, you are able to take broken pieces and put them back together, including the broken pieces of our hearts! Yet, the pain is real and the struggle can sometimes be unbearable. For those who feel they cannot go on, give them hope and assurance that one day every tear will be wiped from our eyes and their will be no more death and suffering! In you we have eternal hope that empowers us to overcome this current darkness. Help us to mourn with those who mourn and not allow evil to desensitize us from being able to empathize with those who suffer.

Father God, thank you that you gave us your son Jesus Christ as our eternal hope. Thank you that such love was shown for us at the cross, you know what it means for a loved one to suffer and can understand our pain. Turn sorrow into joy and grief into healing and what the enemy meant for bad use for your good and glory. All honor and glory be to you, in Jesus Christ name. Amen

The Lord be with those who grieve today! God bless America and God bless you!

Whether the glass is half full or empty is a matter of perspective. The glass can be half full of air and half full of water at the same time. I see life as a gift that is wrapped up with great potential. Writing is one way this gift can be expressed. Words can bring can awaken life. This is why I love the word of God through the bible. It is the living word that can transform humans, societies and ultimately the world. Welcome to my world of words, I hope and pray God will bring these words to life for you!,

  1. Bless you for your tenderness that expressed God’s heart… Our Lord does grieve over the pain His people experience from the wicked acts of men and your prayer for comfort for those hurting came straight from His compassion. Hallelujah that our merciful and just One will dry every tear in the end!

Thank you my brother for being one who deeply cares about others… for mourning over what happened on this terrible day in history.
You are a treasure to the body of Christ.
